Edge of the seat battle at Gazala
Yet another cold and wet Friday nite (Melbourne anyway) as a Friendly DC match with SAS and G3TSOME was scheduled.
From the huge loss that had hit SAS last week against FTA, we had the motivation to hit G3 hard. Gazala gave us the opportunity to spread our wings a little more as tanks and air were at our taking. This would be the test of them all to see if SAS are a true contender in the land of DC.
Both teams fielded 10, no no wait 11, ahhh one more, okay 12 members each for what neither of us knew was going to be the hardest, intense slog to date.
Round 1: SAS - Opposition
The round started with organised chaos as Air, Tanks & Infantry scattered all over the map almost instantly. It was a race to the Middle Flag (at Southern End) and Fastmat soon made it ours with honourable Brotherofzit going down by his side. The call was made to push for North as reinforcements from Opposition main were backing up the South Flag. To SAS's surprise South had been greyed by a rather annoying Apache hovering above the flag point. Most of the SAS armour reinforcements were down as Air support cleared the way. Barnacle soon caught up with Fastmat to cap North as the SAS Ventrilo distorted with cheers of adrenalin. Single flags droped and soon recovered as quickly as they were capped. G3 air was great at suppressing our position, though mEF, Falcon, Far-Cough & Schubie were even better at the counter attack. A swift response with "rgr" and a path was once again cleared for the ground pounders. Continually the drop of flags swapped too and fro, with a somewhat upsetting result as SAS were so close yet so far. Excellent first round, we were already on the edge of our seats. The 2nd round was going to be a HUGe test for us all.
SAS - 0
G3TSOME - 5
Round 2: SAS - Coalition
Secret Air Field was priority one as more air was needed for the support of ground attacks. Heavy competition this area was as G3 were wanting the ever so devastating Apache Helicopter. On the ground G3 took the Middle Flag (at Southern End) and defended it like it was their last. Air support were busy with their own issues and ground forces were no match against G3's armour. It seemed that we had lost our ability to control the map, just as we did, 2 minutes ago. Although, like the gods they are, the air support were free of nail biting dog fights. The call was to destroy the 2 or 3 tanks that surrounded middle. Schubie with his trusty Apache came to my personal rescue as i just took out a enemy tank in the valley and very low on health as i stood like a deer in the lead lights of yet another oncoming tank. As i was thinking "where should i spawn next", the heavens opened up and a rain of armour piercing bullets and missiles blew that tank into the ground. I continued to race to middle as it was our first and only real opportunity so far. One sneaky G3 member laying down by the sandbags got a nasty surprise with a shotgun shell in the back of the head as Barnacle rolled up in his tank for support. Thankfully the bleed had stopped and we were able to regroup and commence our original attack on South. All was great as we had capped all 4 flags. The key was distracting G3 at Gabr Saleh (Gay Bar). Unfortunately simple mistakes were made. SAS weren't defending their flags as strongly as we hoped. This enforce the Hercules team of Brotherofzit in the pilot seat with Fastmat on devastating gunner position. many more paths were cleared though flags were going back and forth in control. Chaos hit the server for both teams as the scrabbling commenced with tickets dropping equally fast. SAS air noticed G3's transport helicopter and jets fly into one another, while SAS made silly TK mistakes. G3 had caught up and tickets were even, though SAS managed to get a last minute break (literally) to cap all 4 flags again. SAS Vent channel broke out in joy as we won what was an awesome round. The confused and intensity distracted us all by the over all winning of the match.
SAS - 14
G3TSOME - 0
Final Score: SAS 14 to G3TSOME 5 - SAS victory by 9 tickets
A huge shout out to SAS who played awesome on the night. A very hefty thanks to G3 for what was the BEST DC round and match for SAS to date.
GG to all
Really looking forward to your challenges in the near future. Big respect goes out to G3!
