Frequently Asked Questions
Who are, or what is, Southern Gaming?
Southern Gaming is a large community of light hearted gamers, catering for a wide range of gaming tastes. At Southern Gaming, skill is secondary only to teamwork, mateship and fun.
We are all pretty relaxed players and although we play certain games competitively and are serious about enjoying our gaming, skill level and 'commitment to a game' are not a requirements to play with SG. We expect all our members to be respectful of all other members , regardless of their skill at a particular game.
Is SG a clan?
Yes. Yet SG is more than a gaming clan. Our focus is more on our community rather than on an individual game.
Is there a minimum age?
Yes. The minimum age is 16. (This can be lifted in certain cases)
How do I become a member?
Understanding what SG is all about by reading this FAQ is essential. Head over to the "Recruitment & Enlistment" forum for an application.
Which games are played at SG?
At the moment, SG is focusing on the following games.
One of the most popular FPS's of all time - Battlefield 2;
the modern day first person shooter - Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare;
back to WWII with - Call of Duty: World at War;
the modded Battlefield 1942 instant classic - Desert Combat;
& fantasy filled MMORPG based gameplay - World of Warcraft.
We tend to only form a gaming division for the games that we compete in, are strong in growth or are in someway active in.
Each game has its own division & each division will have its own "Divisional Captains" who is responsible for all the operational functions related to that game, e.g. ladder challenges, postings on public forums, recruiting, helping new players get settled, keeping the division 'Fresh', etc. This two people are referred to as the "Divisional Captains" (Capt.) who are apart of the High Command & be assisted by the "Divisional Support Corp", Officers.
How do I use the forums?
They are pretty self explanatory to use, there are "Stickies" which you should have a look at, these contain important information that will help you. If you are using your own signatures and avatars we do ask you to not use huge images, and excessive animation. Do not use anything offensive or disturbing - if you aren't sure, check with an Administrator first. There is a size limitation on signatures and avatars.
Are there any rules in SG?
Yes. We do not endorse cheating, exploiting or utilisation of any other methods which provide an unfair advantage. SG play by the rules. In fact, in order to become a SG member, you must read and agree to the SG:
1. Code of Conduct
A good reputation is what the SG is looking for. Abusing or insulting other gamers or Official SG Members in a game, or in forums, is not appreciated and will not be tolerated if done repeatedly.Keep your cool; if your team member stuffs up, keep perspective and remember it's only a game.
We take our gaming seriously at SG, but not at the expense of other members or players, not everyone has the same levels of skill and nor should it be expected. We play and compete for the fun and enjoyment of the game. We do however have teams for those who want to play with a more committed or competitive team.
We want to challenge you, what do we do?
Put up a post "Challenge Us" forum, and we will get things organised. Alternatively you can contact the appropriate game Division Leader via the "Memberlist" or Xfire (List of Division Captains below).
Who is responsible at SG?
rasskul & Fastmat are the founders & overall administrators. There are member of the Chiefs of Staff (Admins) and High Command (Moderators) who are frequently on the forum and perform day to day duties & these are the people you should contact if you need assistance regarding the game you play.
I'm a member, what's next?
The forum message boards are the most active part of SG, and that is where most of the outside-game activity occurs. We just expect members to read all the threads in the "Announcements" forum.
If you intend to become an active member of a gaming division, you should visit the forum for that game often to stay up to date with what is happening.
Do SG wear tags?
Where possible, we require that you carry the SG tag at the start of your nickname when playing online games.
At Southern Gaming, our tags are SG|. (at the beginning of your nickname).
eg. Terry_Wrist
eg. SG|.Terry_Wrist
[NOTE: Only accepted applicants are allowed to wear tags)
Who are the current SG Division Captains?
Please don't hesitate to contact one of these members if you need assistance with a particular division(s). The captains are here to help and lead by example, yet they will appreciate and welcome new ideas and strategies on how to go about certain issues.
